amounts and several DNA sources. Variant DNA amounts ranging from 9 to 640 ng of DNA template from either blood or serum gave reproducible genotyping results. The latter indicates the high flexibility of the method and allows for the omission of DNA quantification before genotyping. We conclude that this assay is a valuable method that allows simple and rapid high-throughput genotyping in the clinical laboratory.

Serum concentrations of carboxyl-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen, amino-terminal propeptide of type III procollagen, cross-linked carboxyl-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen, and their interrelationships in schoolchildren.
We report pediatric age- and sex-specific 95% reference intervals for procollagen type I C-terminal propeptide (PICP), the cross-linked C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen (ICTP), and procollagen type III N-terminal propeptide (P3NP), measured in plasma from 302 schoolchildren (156 boys, 146 girls) ages 4-19 years. All three markers displayed a significant variation with age (ANOVA P < or...
متن کاملTransforming growth factor beta in hypertensives with cardiorenal damage.
We investigated whether a relationship exists between circulating transforming growth factor beta -1 (TGF-beta(1)), collagen type I metabolism, microalbuminuria, and left ventricular hypertrophy in essential hypertension and whether the ability of the angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonist losartan to correct microalbuminuria and regress left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertensives is relat...
متن کاملMarkers of collagen synthesis and degradation in urogenital tissue and serum from women with and without uterovaginal prolapse.
Diverging results have been published concerning collagen metabolism in uterovaginal prolapse (UP). We have investigated collagen turnover in urogenital tissue in urologically healthy women with (UP patients) and without UP or any history of UP (controls). Markers of collagen turnover, carboxy-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen (PICP), amino-terminal propeptide of procollagen III (PIIINP...
متن کاملCirculating collagen metabolites in systemic sclerosis. Differences between limited and diffuse form and relationship with pulmonary involvement.
OBJECTIVE To study collagen metabolites in systemic sclerosis (SSc) and their relationship with clinical manifestations of the disease. METHODS Forty-eight SSc patients, 13 with a diffuse form (dcSSc), 23 with a limited form (lcSSc) and 12 with suspected SSc not fulfilling the ACR criteria, and 31 healthy controls were examined. Serum concentrations of aminoterminal type III procollagen pepti...
متن کاملSerum markers of collagen metabolism: construction workers compared to sedentary workers.
BACKGROUND Evaluation of causal relations between physical load and musculoskeletal disorders is hampered by the lack of knowledge as to the biological relevance of different loading parameters and the large variability between individuals. As indicators of molecular changes in the extracellular matrices of structures of the musculoskeletal system, biomarkers of collagen metabolism may provide ...
